Are Fashion Resale Companies Gaining Share Over Traditional Fashion Retailers?

- YOY growth to the top 15 fashion resale sites was 18% in Q2 2019 compared to -5% for the top 15 fashion retail sites
- The top five fashion resale apps have a higher number of daily active users (DAUs) than the top five fashion retail apps
- In June 2019 poshmark.com received more visits (over 17 million) than the other four top fashion resale sites combined (16.5 million)
- YOY growth in visits to stockx.com was 42% in Q2 2019 – the highest growth of the top five fashion resale sites

Whilst traditional fashion retail sites in the US receive significantly more traffic than the fashion resale sites, YOY growth in visits to the top 15 fashion resale sites (according to traffic share) was 18% in Q2 2019 compared to -5% for the top 15 fashion retail sites.
In addition the top five fashion resellers’ apps have a higher number of daily active users (DAUs) than the top five fashion retailers’ apps.
Who are the top five fashion resale players?
The top five fashion resellers in the US in terms of site visits are poshmark.com, stockx.com, thredup.com, therealreal.com, and grailed.com.
Of the top five players poshmark.com receives the most monthly traffic, over 17 million visits in June 2019, which was higher than the number of visits to the other four sites combined in the same month.
In Q2 2019 stockx.com saw a 42% YOY increase in visits, the strongest growth of the group, followed by poshmark.com that saw a 33% YOY increase and therealreal.com that saw a 27% YOY increase. Two of the sites, thredup.com and grailed.com saw a YOY decrease in visits, -11.5% and -15% YOY.
